Isla
Mujeres which means "Island of Women" in Spanish is
blessed with beautiful beaches. When first discovered by the
Spanish explorer, Cordoba, the island was abandoned, but full
of small Mayan sculptures of women. Hence the name, Island of
Women! The one town on Isla is at the North end of the
island. Most of the island's restaurant & shopping is within
walking distance. The island can be explored by walking, bicycling,
moped, or golf cart.

The
island's two main industries are fishing and tourism, which
many of the local restaurants have capitalized on, offering

The
closest airport to Isla Mujeres is the Cancun International
Airport. From the airport, we recommend that you take a taxi
or bus to Puerto Juarez (the historical crossing point for the
boat shuttle to Isla Mujeres), which is about a 20 minute ride.
This is the original entry point to Isla Mujeres, giving travelers
a sense of how islanders made the crossing long before Cancun
existed. The ferry costs 35 Mexican pesos (equivalent to about
US$3.50) and departs Puerto Juarez every 30 minutes (from 6:00
